Brave New Arts World: Flickr Commons
More and more work is entering the public domain, thanks to social technology such as Flickr. Flickr Commons is an exciting new resource available to all of us for free. In their words, “The key goals of The Commons on Flickr are to firstly show you hidden treasures in the world's public photography archives, and secondly to show how your input and knowledge can help make these collections even richer. You're invited to help describe the photographs you discover in The Commons on Flickr, either by adding tags or leaving comments.” Eighteen institutions throughout the world have launched ambitious projects to share and co-curate their photo collections, including the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian.
